Ronny Herman de Jong

Ronny Herman de Jong, born and raised on the island of Java in the Dutch East Indies, survived four years in Japanese concentration camps during World War Two.  Her mother’s secret camp journal, after she translated it into English, was the basis for her books In the Shadow of the Sun, published in Canada in 1992 and in 2015 her memoir Rising from the Shadow of the Sun: A Story of Love, Survival and Joy, currently also available as an Audiobook

After the war Ronny earned a degree in English Literature at Leiden University in the Netherlands. In 1972 she moved to the USA with her husband and three children and currently resides in North Carolina. She loves life, dancing, swimming and walking and is the mother of three and grandmother of seven grandchildren. She has been telling and showing her mother's story of the horrors of life in Japanese camps for women and children with inspirational Keynote Presentations for audiences as small as 20 and as large as 100 people.
