Poke Check (Harrisburg Railers Series Book 4) Kindle Edition
One scorching summer in each other’s arms could never be enough.
Stanislav “Stan” Lyamin is happy playing for the Railers. The towering goalie is well-loved, respected, and making a home for himself even though that home only contains him, his cat, and his growing Pokemon trading card collection. Stan prefers it that way.
He’d given his heart to a man in a secret affair, and that man walked away, leaving Stan shattered. Now Erik is back in his life, and he has the same tumultuous effect he had on Stan’s heart as before. This time it’s not just a kissable mouth and sweet blond curls that Erik has brought to Harrisburg, there’s a soon-to-be ex-wife and a precious baby.
Despite the vow Stan made to hate Erik forever, he’s now finding it harder and harder to turn away.
Erik Gunnarsson’s dream had always been to play in the NHL, he just never imagined he’d land a contract with the Railers. Who would have thought that fate would put him on the same team as Stanislav Lyamin; the man whose heart he’d callously broken?
Secrets and lies had defined their summer relationship, and the choice that Erik made to end it all haunts him still. In the middle of a messy divorce and with a baby in tow, Erik finds himself back in Stan’s life. Now all he has to do is be the best dad he can be, prove to the team that he deserves the chance to stay on the roster and try his hardest to get Stan to forgive him.
Is it possible to persuade a man who hates you to give love a second chance?

- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2018Stan!!! I've been hoping for Stan's story from the start. This was probably my favorite in the series so far. One of my favorite tropes is the second chance at love. Stan and Erik have a brief but passionate past. Erik is trying to live through the mess he admittedly created of his life. Can two men who love each other get past all the hurt and move forward? I loved Erik with his son, Noah. I loved Stan's fierce love and loyalty to his mother and sister. Stan's sister Galina is a hoot and the whole "trip to Vegas" was hysterical!!
If you've been reading the series, you won't want to miss this. If you haven't read the series, you can read this as a standalone, but you'll be missing on all the other guy's backstories and that would be a shame.
If you're an RJ Scott fan like me you won't be disappointed. This collaboration between RJ and VL Locey is something special. I don't know how they do it, but I'm so happy that these two authors put their heads together and give us such wonderful stories.
I'm over-the-moon with this series and can't wait for the next book to come out!

- Reviewed in the United States on April 15, 2018Erik “Gunnar” Gunnarsson comes to the Harrisburg Railers with a new baby and the hope that man he loves can forgive him for baby Noah.
Stanislav “Stan” Lyamin is the goalie for the Railers. Good at his job, which is to keep the other team from scoring. Seeing Erik on his ice brings back the heartache he had when Erik left him and married the mother of his child.
Their summer together went deep into each mans heart. Erik hopes Stan will let him explain what happened. Stan doesn't want to know the how's or why's, he just knows Erik betrayed him.
Two determined, stubborn men, just wanting to be together, but having trouble making it happen. Vodka, a lot of vodka helps them break through barriers and begin the journey back to each other.
Seriously, this series is excellent. The men are believable and the sense of family throughout the stories is consistent and heartfelt.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 13, 2018I was given an ARC in exchange for a review but I loved it enough to buy the published version. This is my favorite of the series so far! I've re-read it a couple of times since I received the ARC.
Presumably because of Stan's limited but growing fluency in English, it feels like there is more internal thoughts and dialogue in this book than previous books in the series, for both Erik and Stan. However, that provides a lot of opportunity to know what Stan and Erik love about each other, which can be a challenge in a second-chance romance that doesn't flash back to the initial romance.
I also enjoyed the ongoing friendships between the teammates and learning more about secondary characters, as well as friendships developed prior to being teammates. The hotel breakfast scene between Erik and Conner is especially funny; it makes me wonder if Conner knew what he was getting into when he became Captain of the Railers.
I think my favorite aspect is getting to know Stan much better - because of having his POV - and the importance of family to him and seeing him achieve his dreams of home and family.
- Reviewed in the United States on July 9, 2019I adored Stan, and the cultural misunderstandings he had were hilarious. His character was wonderfully portrayed, extremely sympathetic and endearing, He really made the book for me, and reminded me of Russian friends so much. The romance was nicely paced, and although I found Eric less interesting at first I warmed up to his struggles as a father and man. This is my favorite in the series, just edging out Tennant and Jareds story
- Reviewed in the United States on March 26, 2019Another amazing story in their Harrisburg Railers series. Stan...Stan...Stan. Sigh.
I have been fascinated with him since "Changing Lanes" saga with Ten and Jared. I wanted to see more of him and get his backstory. How this loveable, slightly strange and totally adorable giant of a man can be so open, caring and friendly without having someone in his life. Then we find out about Erik: the beautiful Swedish hockey player who sadly broke Stan's heart. In his attempt to do the "right thing" for his child AND his and Stan's careers, Erik made a mess. Nothing was right, both of them alone and hurting, until Erik told the truth to Stan. The adage of "The Truth Will Set You Free" helps both Stan AND Erik in their coming together again. Stan, this larger than life man, just wants to be happy. To have his family, husband and children happy and with him. To have the "American Dream".
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 2018Happy Valentine’s Day! I bought this for myself as a V Day gift. Well, this was pretty low on angst. Mostly sweet though. I think Stan is the one character that always makes me laugh. Even in the first three books.
I’m honestly a little torn. While it was sweet and Stan made me smile, the storyline didn’t really have much happening. It bumbled along nicely and that was it.
From the blurb, I kind of expected some amount of drama. And while there was some tension, it kinda fizzled out pretty quickly.
I do love both the MCs though. Stan is sweet and super adorable! And Erik, well, he’s understandably strained and it showed. Whoever wrote Erik did an amazing job. I just wish the storyline had a bit more oomph to it.
- Reviewed in the United States on September 27, 2023Erik and Stan manage to reconnect and rekindle their love all during hockey season! Add in lots of family and friends who help out and this is a fun story!
- Reviewed in the United States on February 14, 20183.5 Stars!
I really liked Stan and Eric. I was super excited about this book and I enjoyed it.
I like everything that is here but to be a really great read, more detail, and more couple time, and more exploration was needed.
The writers are in a tricky spot because Stan's English is not great, he doesn't speak Swedish, and Eric's Russian is basically nil.
However, when we are in Stan's head things work well and this is a lovely alternating point of view book.
I just needed more complexity to really feel the love between these two great heroes

4.0 out of 5 stars Stan
Stan is too precious for this world, we don't deserve him. Or we all deserve a Stan. That scene where Erik says "where is my goodbye?" and Stan pointed to his own chest and said "In here, your goodbye" just broke my heart in a million pieces.

5.0 out of 5 stars Sweet and funny.
I'd been waiting eagerly for this book and it didn't disappoint. Stan is the goalie for the Railers, known for his love of Pokemon and often hysterical take on the English language. Erik is the one that got away, the one who broke Stan's big heart. Now he's back, with his gorgeous son Noah. Will Stan forgive him and can they make it work?
This is a sweet, sexy story, with plenty of laughs. I love Stan so much, he's such a big teddy bear, and Erik complements him so well. Add in baby Noah and you have a recipe for adorableness.
Highly recommended, can't wait for the next one!

5.0 out of 5 stars I think this is my favorite of thtseries so far!
Stan was so kind and sweet and you can't help but want the happiest of happy ever after for him. Erik is trying so hard to be a good dad to Noah and sacrificing his own happiness to do it. Watching them find each other again and heal both their hearts was wonderful!

4.0 out of 5 stars Sweet story
After a clandestine affair during a conditioning camp, Stan and Erik cross paths again when Eric is signed to the Railers. Erik comes with a complication of sorts, his gorgeous son Noah.
Stan and Erik rekindle their love and build a gorgeous family together, even bringing Stan’s mother and sister out from Russia.

4.0 out of 5 stars Brilliant!!
Oh how I love this series. This budding romance is just the sweetest. The main characters have a thing one summer, complications end the relationship abruptly, a year or so later they're playing for the same team and bingo, sparks fly again and one character plays hard to get, until he sees the baby...then he's a gonna. One click and find out what I'm twittering on about. It'll be so worth it.
This series is just brilliant...
