Hat Trick (Harrisburg Railers Series Book 8) Kindle Edition

4.6 out of 5 stars 498 ratings

Stan Lyamin has seen many of his dreams come true. He’s found his soulmate, loves Noah like his own, hoisted the Cup, and has his Mama living with him in his new country. But his fantasies of a loud, loving, madcap home overflowing with childish laughter linger. When a distant family member passes, Stan and Erik immediately agree to take in the two orphaned children, but that means a trip back to Russia for Stan, an idea that both exhilarates and terrifies him.

Erik’s world tilts on its axis when a phone call wakes him and Stan in the middle of the night. Abruptly, Stan is returning to Russia, making deals, working with people who know people, and fully intending to bring two orphaned children home. The red tape is overwhelming, and Erik is alone in Harrisburg with the nearly impossible task of finding a nanny who can speak fluent Russian. Being on his own is one thing, but add in fears about Stan’s safety and team issues, and Erik is finding everything hard to balance; not least of which is spending quality time with Noah.

When their family expands from three to five, the journey won’t be easy, but love can always find a way.

Stan and Erik are living the good life with Noah and Stan's Mama. Late one night Stan gets a call from a cousin in Russia that said another cousin has passed away and left two orphans in his care. Stan is worried about going back to Russia but isn't going to let that stop him from going and getting the kids. Eva and Ravel are scared and feeling pretty lost when Stan shows up in Russia to pick them up. Erik is at home trying to get the house ready for two new arrivals, a nanny that speaks Russian, keeping his head in the game at practice and spending time with Noah, not to mention not worrying about Stan in Russia.

After Stan gets back home with the kids they all realize there's still things that have to be done. The state sends a caseworker to check up on the home situation and a tutor is needed since Ravel doesn't understand/speak much English. There's a learning curve for all involved when bringing new members into the family.

There's a totally hilarious scene when Stan goes to talk to Layton and ends up embarrassing Layton royally. There's also a scene where Stan and his mother get into a disagreement that is cringe worthy and funny at the same time. All the cast of characters from the whole series gets a little time to shine and it's very heart warming in the case of Ten. This book goes from lovable and sweet to hilarious in the span of a few chapters.

I whole heartedly enjoyed this book and recommend it to all that love RJ Scott and VL Locey. It has a little of everything to go around. I barely finished reading the ARC when I knew I had to buy a copy.

Stan and Erik adjusting to added family was sweet and kinda sappy at times. The authors added interest with details about Stan traveling to Russia and the adoption. Stan’s dialogue seems a little too juvenile at times but conveys the big, joyful personality of his character. The trip to Vegas with the team is a hoot! If you read the series, you can’t skip this.

Stan and Eric get a call that changes their world. Two children, distant relatives of Stan’s, need their help. Stan braves a trip to Russia to collect his new family. Eric can do nothing but wait for his love to return to him.

I love the Railers stories. One that features Stan is a wonderful bonus. Of course Eric, Ten and Mads are along for the ride. A short book that manages to feature all of the family, a pink flamingo room, Elvis finery, and lots and lots of love. Stan’s zest for life fills every page with delight. In Stan speak I think it would be “Happy Most”.

I love the Harrisburg Railers. Full stop, no embellishment needed.
If you haven't read the Harrisburg Railers series, FIX THAT SHI* NOW. No, they're not in Kindle Unlimited but they're not expensive and they are worth every. single. penny.

The team is a huge family, and much of that ensemble cast makes an appearance in Hat Trick, which I don't think would work as a standalone. Too much backstory. But for those of us who have read and re-read the Railers, this sweet novella is the perfect Valentine's Day treat. I love Stan, Erik, and Noah, and now Eva and Pavel, too.
Also, seeing Tennant Rowe on the ice again was cheer-worthy.
    Love, love, love. Love.

The most perfect novella to ever novella. I couldn’t have enjoyed this extra story about Stan and Erik more. More children to love, an Elvis wedding, Ten’s back, so much fun!

The Harrisburg Railers series is a favorite of mine, and Stan is far and away my favorite character in the series. I loved his and Erik’s story in Poke Check, so getting an update on their lives and a new twist to their family situation was a treat. In addition, we get to see all the other guys from the team, and new information on Ten that will make fans of the series very happy indeed!

Stan’s quaint way of speaking gets me every time, and his quirky mind and some of the things he comes up with just kept a smile on my face throughout this story. And Erik—the sweetheart—goes right along with him, and their love is even more obvious now than it was the first time around.

The majority of the book is relatively angst-free; honestly I thought the only part that was a bit stressful was Stan’s trip back to Russia to pick up the kids. But you know…Stan KNOWS people. So as ominous as the trip may have seemed, I was pretty confident that part would work out fine.

But the fact that there wasn’t really any conflict does mean that a lot of the story is day-to-day stuff with the guys, so I have to admit my mind did wander just a tad. There were also some points when even I got a little tired of Stan’s exceedingly overdone way of talking…but because he’s Stan I overlooked that in the end.

A solid 4 stars for Hat Trick…just know before reading this that it really doesn’t stand alone—you should have at the very least read Poke Check before starting this one, and ideally have read the entire series in order so you are up to date on all of the guys’ situations. And as with the rest of the books in this series, this one is meant for readers 18+ for adult language and sexual content (when the guys could sneak it in!).

How can a book with Stan in it not be great!
I just love Stans and Eriks relationship and the family they have with their little Noah, Stans mother and sister. And with the addition of their new children Eva and Pavel it just expands the love.

Then there's the rest of the men in the Railers team, the Vegas wedding and Ten back on the ice!!
Lots of love, feelings, laughs and warm feelings while reading this one.

The growth of the love between Stan & Erik, which culminated in their marriage, and their adoption of Eva and Patel from Russia made for an interesting expansion of the Raiders’ hockey storyline. I look forward to reading the rest of the books in this series.

Stan going to Russia to bring back two orphaned kids is sweet, but he’s in danger with the unrest between the US and Russia, and with him being gay.

At home, Erik is worrying and working on getting the adoption paperwork in place, finding a Russian speaking nanny, and trying to play hockey.

Once everyone is home, the kids need a lot of support with their grief, and with trying to adapt to anew family and country. Little needs help too, with his brand new older siblings.

It’s a lovely portrait of life in America, but more and more, immigrants being supported is becoming a fiction. I wish Stan had more real reasons to appreciate his new country.
